Continuous

Yo people!
After 1 and a half weeks studying in Parkville campus, i've got new views already~

I'm not trying to be biased!!!
(although most of u felt that i'm praising Sunway most of the time... which is quite true coz 1st few days not yet adapt, quite culturally shocked...lol)

I'll just mention things/stuff/whatever that i saw & felt... Whether it's a pro or con, depends on individual...
Enjoy reading and think of the comparison by urself... ^v^

#16 Sunway has monkey at the 'jungle' where many of us park our vehicles, beside the uni, and some lab-breed animals in building 3, level 8 (i think) that is restricted to most students...
Parkville campus has snakes in the cafeteria itself (of course behind glass...), and a nice aquarium with many types of fishes... And a piano which i've not seen anyone playing it...

#17 There are so many people in the lecture hall that I'm able to see new faces almost everyday... Meeting new friends is now my ADL (Activities of Daily Living)... cool eh?
just realized that there's a quite good looking guy in my lecture hall... hehe

#18 There's lectopia from Parkville MUSO, where we can download the lectures (slides with the lecturers' voice recorded during lectures) and review it, in case we missed something important...

#19 In Parkville, there's no need to take lifts... library, cafeteria, lecture hall, tute room, laboratory, virtual practice environment... are on the same floor, or only one floor away... quite convenient...

#20 There's no clock in the lecture hall in Parkville, but there's one in pharmacy practice room back in sunway (last sem)... i don't know about the current venue for their lectures, but i think there's at least one clock in every room in Sunway... right?

#21 There is one major difference which i'd observed... The lecturers in Parkville are very punctual... no lectures will start late (unless there's technical problem) or end later than the indicated time... There'll be no delay or extra class... everything is on time...
Even the students here are so quick! For example, when the lecture ends at 10am, by 10.01am, nobody is in the lecture hall anymore... At Sunway, most students will stretch, chitchat a bit, slowly pack their stuff before leaving the room...

#22 Due to the number of students that have different allocated timetable for their pracs and tutes, we are unable to postpone or shift lectures forward... so, we'll need to wait for 3 or 4 hours sometimes for the next prac / tute in Parkville... in Sunway, just inform the class rep about the unsatisfied timetable, then request for a swap/change in timetable from the lecturer... 80% of the request will be granted... (for last few sems... not sure about now... i think not that easy anymore...)

#23 The earliest lecture starts at 8.30am on certain days in Parkville... while the earliest lecture starts at 9am back in sunway...
Most of the lectures here are continuous... there're breaks for half an hour, or breaks for one hour if there are more than 3 lectures in a day... Back in Sunway, there're only breaks for one hour or continuous lectures... Breaks for an hour is a good thing i think, as sometimes, we can't do much during the 1 hour break... besides, we can end our lectures earlier and go home earlier! That is why i feel that the lectures here are more relax as we have lot's of free time after a busy morning...

#24 For female washrooms in Parkville, there's no place for us to put our files/books in the toilet room... There's always place for me to put my things back in Sunway's toilet...
And and... there're only toilet sitting bowls in Parkville.. they don't have the squatting type which i find it more hygienic & easier... lol (hehe, i even compare the toilet...)

#25 The lecture notes here make more sense after the lecturers explain them because the lectures were prepared by them... Unlike in Sunway, we don't quite get the meaning of certain slides with symbols or funny sentences...
However, the lecture slides in sunway have added stuff relevant to the Malaysian context, and are more flexible in the sense of printing... We can print the slides we want in whatever number and orientation we like (3x3 or 4x2 or 2x2) in Sunway, unlike in Parkville, where the lecturers had fixed the number of slides per pdf page... So there's not much choice or consideration before printing...

#26 Students can eat food in the library in Parkville!!! In Sunway, when we nibble some buns or bread in the library, we would be told off...

#27 To connect to the wireless internet in Parkville, we have to bring our laptops to uni, follow some instructions/guidelines provided on a piece of paper given by the librarian. download something (during 1st time only), then only can connect using our authcate Id and password... back in Sunway, just type in your authcate Id and password, then can online immediately... so different... mmm

#28... i'm tired for now... i'm starting to adapt to this new lifestyle... Felt a bit feverish last night and today... with some cough now and then... Hope to recover soon...

Will update if there's new stuff to share!!! ^v^

Comparison

Hey people, today's my 4th day attending lectures in Parkville Campus...

... and i decided to share my views about the 2 campuses... so read closely...

Parkville and Sunway campus.

#1 We study in a classroom with about 40 people at Sunway, where everyone knows everyone;
We study in a classroom with about 150-250 people (depending on day, weather and unit, or lecturer...lol) in a huge lecture hall at Parkville...

#2 We have to sign attendants for lectures in Sunway, but not in Parkville because there are just too many students... So the number of students in a lecture hall 'fluctuates'...

#3 The lab is much newer in Sunway, with computers on each bench... ;
The lab in Parkville is much older, and not so high-tech i feel...

#4 The lab manual is provided in Sunway (nicely printed & binded with plastic covers);
Not all lab manuals are provided in Prakville! Even if it is provided, it is only stapled and punched with 4 holes... maybe there are too many students & lack of binders... (what an excuse...)

#5 The computers in Sunway are upgraded to Windows 7, but it is still Windows Vista in Parkville... (i don't really care or mind bout this though)

#6 The library is only one floor and quite small in Parkville, but i can understand this, because it's a small campus for only pharmacy and pharmaceutical science students... but i miss the library in Sunway... 3 floors with so many books...

#7 The internet usage is free in Sunway!!!
It's limited to 1G of internet usage (except Monash websites) in Parkville, so we can't youtube, download or upload many things using our authcate password in uni... have to pay for the extra usage somemore... haiz...

#8 The cafeteria has microwaves and a small fridge for students to use in Parkville, because there are not much varieties of food sold there... So, mostly students bring their own food to microwave, or go out to Melb Uni or the city for lunch...
People always complain about the food in Sunway's cafeteria, but they will appreciate it a lot if they come to Parkville...

#9 The printing is so 'mafan' and expensive in Parkville... 12cents (AUSD) per page, and the papers are yellowish in colour... maybe recycled paper... Save the earth i guess... understandable...
It's only RM0.10 per page in Sunway, so it's much cheaper with better quality paper... so stop complaining for those who are studying comfortably in Sunway...

#10 If we have doubts in anything, we can easily go and see the lecturer in Sunway and ask for help, and they will help us immediately...
In Parkville, we have to email to make appointments with the lecturers 1st before seeing them personally... It may be a good practise for real life, but i feels that it waste some of my time, and i really appreciate the 'easy accessability' back in Sunway...

#11 Back to lecture hall... the sittings are a bit packed in Parkville, and the tables are foldable type, which is kinda difficult to explain here...
But the point is when somebody who sits in the middle wants to go to the toilet, everyone to the right or left (depends on whether the person wants to go out from the right or left) has to remove their books or notes or anything on the 'table', move out and make way for the person to go out...
So, i prefer sitting at the side, or go to the toilet after the lecture has ended if i'm sitting at the middle...
Luckily the foldable 'table' is not the type that will fall off easily like the one in Clayton campus... if not, books and notes will fall off whenever somebody accidentally pushes it slightly...

#12 The lockers are provided to us for free in Sunway... and we can place our stuff in the classroom before going to the lab...;
There are not enough lockers in Parkville... many people have to share ($5 per year per locker)...
So we are still figuring ways to put our stuff before entering the lab...

#13 The lab rules are very strict in Parkville... Goggles aka safety glasses are provided in Sunway but not everyone wears it (especially those who wear specs)
We have to get our own in Parkville, and everyone (even with specs) has to wear it before entering the lab... even it's only a briefing session for half an hour or a dry lab...
It's for our safety... so i can understand... hmmm...

#14 There are at least one water dispenser in every floor back in Sunway, but there's only one water dispensing machine in Parkville which is in the cafeteria... so if it breaks down, we have to drink pipe water... which is natural and too clean to be drunk according to the locals...

#15 There's no main gate or security door in Parkville, so we don't have to show our ID card before entering the campus... Basically, anyone can just enter the lecture hall and attend lectures (i think)... It's so open that i don't know where's the boundary... haha

#16 That's all for now... I'll continue on #16 if i've got new 'views'...

stay tune! ^v^

Ethernet

Today's my 1st time using the internet in my room...

Ahhh... after such a long week...

The internet service here in Melbourne is very troublesome and so restrictive!
They have this data quota system for both upload and download, which means i can't go on Youtube for months... T.T
Once i exceed the quota, the speed will be extremely slow...
And the quota is divided into on peak and off-peak...

Malaysia's internet is unlimited! It's free to me...
But not in Melb... everything is about money... I love Malaysia...

Test and difficulties everyday...
But i'll endure and keep on going...

Result is out!!!
I think i did well, although my cGPA reduced...

So many things to share, yet so little 'data quota'...
Maybe i should go online in the state library and upload pictures there... It's unlimited and free though the speed will be slower i think...

I tried the Sundae cone in McD here, taste the same except for the biscuit cone... nothing special... Will try Hungry Jack's ice cream next time...

Adioz! ^v^
