(Basically I've sat on 7 flights in just 5 months... 3 Airasia X, 3 Tigerairway and 1 Emirates)
#1 There are weight limit per person.
So, just double check your weight allowance, including check-in luggage and hand carry.
Generally it's only 7kg for hand carry bag, which does not include a handbag and a laptop bag.
Thus, put in some heavy but small items in your handbag or laptop bag, but also ensure that you have the strength to carry those!!!
Just to be safe, you can weigh your luggages at close counters.
Don't get it?
When you reach the airport, don't immediately go to your check-in counter.
Find a 'nobody counter' and put your luggages on the weighing scale to make sure that your luggage is within the allowed limit.
Extra til 500g (Eg, 30.5kg) should be fine.
If not, just throw away some unwanted and old stuff before you lock your luggage and check-in.
#2 Bring an empty plastic bottle.
Yeap, you can't bring in water bottles, coz liquids more than 100mL is not allowed.
So, just throw away the water inside, and bring in the water bottle.
What for??
After you enter (before boarding probably), you may find some water dispensary machine.
Fill your bottles there (when there're not people lining up to drink it), so that you don't have to buy water on plane, and get hydrated always~~
The people are just afraid that the water we bring in contains explosive chemicals, but drinking the water after the scanning custom is ok.
#3 Bring in some breads.
If you would like to save some money (the food on plane is expensive!), buy some buns or biscuits to be eaten on the plane.
You can't bring food into some countries, such as Australia.
So, finish those food on plane.
You'll surely finish them during long hauls of flight... Don't worry...
#4 Be alert.
Yeap. There would be too many people, and you don't know them.
Count your luggages always, and make sure all of them are within your sight.
Look at boards or screens to know where you are going and what time does check-in counter closes, boarding gate opens and closes, flight number etc...
There could be changes anytime, and will be announced via announcements or screens.
#5 Stretch and walk around.
After the seat belt signs are off, you can walk around a bit... Don't stay at your seat throughout the flight! (Unless your flight is less than 2 hours)
Why??
Because you may get oedema.
It's a condition where your feet becomes swollen, too much interstitial fluid, and becomes so fat that you can't wear your shoes.
Yeap, I've personally experienced it during one of the flights back home.
It takes days to recover.
So, to prevent it, just walk around, massage your legs, and keep your body active (feet especially).
Go to the back and exercise... Stretch... Nobody will laugh at you...
Erm... there are some more small small things which I think you will figure it out yourself.
So, happy holidays to you all who would be traveling overseas! ^v^
